‘I know what’s right’ – Lucas Bergvall defends his decision to join Tottenham amid criticism
Lucas Bergvall has defended his decision to join Tottenham Hotspur instead of Barcelona in January, insisting that he wants to keep his head down and focus on performing for Djurgårdens IF.
This winter, Bergvall and fellow Swede Dejan Kulusevski joined Tottenham, with the Lilywhites and Djurgårdens IF agreeing on an initial £8.5 million cost (Daily Mail).
Soccer. Before deciding on Tottenham as his next destination, Bergvall reportedly had five offers, with Barcelona also expressing interest in the 18-year-old, according to reports from London.
Djurgårdens IF is rumored to have a sell-on provision included in the agreement and to maintain a relationship with Tottenham that may eventually lead to player exchanges.
Lucas Bergvall is unbothered by Tottenham criticism
According to SportWitness, Bergvall received backlash from the Spanish media for selecting Spurs over Barcelona, but the midfield player seems unconcerned by the rumors.
“It’s not something I spend a lot of time on,” he said to Sportbladet. They are free to write and express themselves. I understand what’s proper. I make an effort not to give it too much energy.
He said, “That can be the case, absolutely,” in response to the question of whether the criticism could be motivated by jealousy. I’m not sure.
At last, Bergvall revealed his thoughts on the transfer procedure and his goals for the upcoming half-year: “There was a lot going on in my head, a lot of back-and-forth speculation on social media.” Many people were curious, but now that things have calmed down, I can concentrate solely on Djurgården.
“It’s good to spend the last half a year with Djurgården and hopefully take home a trophy.” I make an effort not to dwell too much on injuries; they happen when they happen.
Criticising a teenager because he decided to join another club is absolutely ridiculous. Bergvall clearly sees Tottenham as a better path for his career as Postecoglou is laying the groundwork for young players to get a chance in the starting XI. Sometimes, the egos attached to big clubs like Barcelona can get in the way of that.
