Revealed: Journalist explains why Spurs Let their star join EPL rival

In response to Sergio Reguilon’s failure to win over Ange Postecoglou during preseason, Tottenham Hotspur permitted him to sign with Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Reguilon shifted to United toward the end of the summer transfer period.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s long-term injuries made it imperative for United to hire a left-back in order to avoid leaving Erik ten Hag without a left-back partner.

Before United decided on Reguilon, a variety of candidates, including Marcos Alonso, Ryan Bertrand, and Marc Cucurella, were taken into consideration.

The player has had a fantastic start to life at United.

Despite the fact that both matches—against Brighton and Bayern Munich—were losses, he was outstanding in both contests. He was essential to United’s 1-0 victory at Turf Moor, which put a stop to their losing streak.

He was hurt throughout that game and had to leave. Reguilon is still healing, according to a story carried by The Peoples Person, thus he won’t be able to play against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 26-year-old may not return until at least after the international break in October.

Alasdair Gold, the Tottenham Hotspur correspondent for Football London, spoke with the Manchester Evening News and revealed the rationale for the North London team’s decision to break ways with Reguilon.

With Destiny Udogie as the starter, Ben Davies as a back-up, and several players who can play left-back, Gold remarked, “He was nowhere near a starting spot really.” They wanted to get rid of the Spaniard for whatever reasonable price that he would take.

“Reguilon is a well-liked member of the team and was given a chance to shine under Postecoglou in preseason after a year away at Atletico, but he looked quite shaky with his defending whenever called upon during the friendlies,” said one team member.

Consistency is more important here. Reguilon would occasionally play exceptionally well, but he was never able to make an impression consistently. At Atletico last season, he struggled with injuries and occasionally ended himself in the hospital with stomach issues. I felt bad for him.

Gold said when asked if Tottenham had taken into account that they would be bolstering a direct opponent, “I don’t think so to be honest, such was the desire to move him on and free up a foreign player spot in the squad.”

He emphasized that Reguilon’s strong start at Old Trafford has pleased Tottenham because it will only serve to raise his worth.

It’s understood that Posteclogou’s side are keen on permanently selling the player to United.
