A Tottenham player was cruelly singled out for his performance against Man City, calling him “a boy playing in a man’s game.”
Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has criticised Bryan Gil’s performance against Manchester City.
Spurs prevailed in a thrilling six-goal match at the Etihad Stadium to earn a hard-fought point against the reigning champions.
The players fought valiantly in spite of having to field a weaker team. They went ahead in the sixth minute when captain Heung-min Son completed an impressive counterattack. However, a few minutes later, the South Korean leveled the score at 1-1 when he put the ball in his own net following a Manchester City free kick.
For the remainder of the half, Manchester City was in complete control, and Phil Foden’s goal made the score 2-1.
Nevertheless, Tottenham persevered and fought their way back into the match in the closing minutes of the second half. In the 69th minute, Giovani Lo Celso’s incredible strike from outside the box tied the score at 2-2 for Spurs.
But in the 81st minute, Jack Grealish put Haaland’s ball in the back of the net to give City the lead again.
And in the ninetieth minute, Dejan Kulusevski hammered home a forceful header to bring Spurs back to parity just as the supporters were starting to lose hope.
Even though the Spurs player put on an incredible display, Jamie Carragher was not impressed with one.
He called out Bryan Gil, who has seen more playing time as a result of injuries, but he was unable to make a big difference against City.
At halftime, Ange Postecoglou replaced him, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg took his place.
As Carragher stated to Sky Sports:
“Man City’s strength allowed for the achievement of their first goal.
Spurs made the decision to switch Hojbjerg on and Gil off for that reason. He appeared to be a boy engaged in a game played by men.
“He performed admirably for the first goal, but there was simply too much power.”

Aside from his role in the opening goal, the Spaniard found it difficult to contain Kyle Walker. The former Spurs full-back was very at ease covering GIl, who was unable to create much of a threat from the left.
