Injury Update: Tottenham confirms player return
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has admitted he’s hopeful Pape Matar Sarr will return from injury by the end of the week.
Following yesterday’s 3-3 draw at Manchester City, the Tottenham manager provided a new update on Pieter Matar Sarr’s fitness in an interview with beIN SPORTS.
Spurs’ last two Premier League games have been missed by the 21-year-old, who sustained an injury during the international break.
Sarr was left out of Ange Postecoglou’s squad for yesterday’s trip to Manchester and did not show up for training just two days prior to the loss to Aston Villa.
The Senegalese midfielder has been Spurs’ best player thus far this season, and Postecoglou’s injury happened at the worst possible time.
However, the Australian manager is optimistic that the young player will be back in action by this week’s end.
Postecoglou says Sarr could be back this week
In an interview with beIN SPORTS, Postecoglou provided an update on Sarr’s level of fitness and acknowledged that he is happy to see Richarlison return.
“It was nice to see Richy today,” he remarked. “Hopefully, Pape Sarr will return by the end of the week.
The remaining ones are all long-term employees and won’t return until January.
After an exciting ninety minutes of action at City, the Spurs manager was then questioned about whether the rest of his team had emerged unscathed.
He answered, “Yeah, hopefully everything okay and a clean bill of health.”
Following his groin surgery last month, Richarlison, a star player for Brazil, was welcomed back by Postecoglou yesterday.
He is still without important players like Micky van de Ven and James Maddison, but Cristian Romero will return from suspension for Thursday’s match against West Ham.
Spurs’ situation is starting to look a little better after such a trying time because of injuries and suspensions.
By the end of this week, Sarr’s absence will also be covered, cutting Postecoglou’s list of absent players significantly.
Though he will have competition to reclaim his spot in the starting lineup, the “unbelievable” midfielder made an impression early in the season.
In fact, Giovani Lo Celso has been a revelation in midfield, scoring two goals in his past two games, and Yves Bissouma made his comeback to action yesterday against City.
Furthermore impressive in the middle of the park is Dejan Kulusevski. However, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Swede go back out wide to reassert Sarr in the middle of the field.
