Report: How Postecoglou made me terminate my contract to join Tottenham
The Athletic have revealed that Chris Davies was mightily impressed with Ange Postecoglou’s vision for Tottenham Hotspur when the Australian called him in the summer about joining his coaching staff.
Unlike other managers who bring the same team with them wherever they go, Postecoglou wants to work with a fresh group of coaches at each of his clubs. At Tottenham, he followed suit, and one of the players to join his setup as the team’s new senior assistant coach was Davies.
On multiple occasions, the Spurs head coach has praised his number two player, calling him “a key contributor” to the club’s ongoing initiative (Football.London).
The 38-year-old reportedly turned down a December offer from Swansea City to become their next manager in order to stay at Hotspur Way (BBC Sport).
How did Postecoglou convince Chris Davies to join Spurs?
The Athletic have now provided information about how Postecoglou persuaded the former Celtic, Leicester City, and Liverpool coach to participate in his Tottenham initiative.
According to the article, Davies was informed by the Spurs manager that he would be joining a different Spurs team than the one he had previously faced.
The Welsh coach reportedly felt very touched by Postecoglou’s encouragement, with the Australian reportedly expressing complete support for his aspirations to become manager in the future and pledging to assist him in that endeavor.
According to the source, Postecoglou’s goal of making Spurs the best and most competitive team in the Premier League also left Davies quite impressed.
It is well known that Postecoglou depends on his coaches to oversee the daily training sessions (after informing them of the specifics) so he can keep his demeanor and play a subdued role among the team.
Thus, the Australian had to be able to assemble an A-team, and it seems that he has, with Davies playing a key role in his setup.
