INJURY UPDATE: Tottenham announces Return date for key player as Tottenham moves forward
The Tottenham Hotspur players have been working hard under Ange Postecoglou ahead of their return to action next week against Crystal Palace
A workweek of preparation is all that Tottenham Hotspur needs to get back on track before their next Premier League game against Crystal Palace.
Spurs lost their cutting edge in front of goal in the home loss to Wolves, despite the fact that they have only lost two of their last ten Premier League games. Due to Mauricio Pochettino’s team’s participation in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, the Chelsea match has been postponed. Ange Postecoglou will have two weeks to train with his squad before Palace and their new manager Oliver Glasner come.
These are the top five observations we made during this week’s training sessions at Hotspur Way.
Missing players
Those sidelined with injuries have been conspicuously absent from training photos and videos taken in recent days. Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie were not present for the Wolves encounter, and Fraser Forster will be sidelined for some time due to a fractured foot.
If Udogie could get some training under his belt, Postecoglou seemed optimistic that he would be back in time for the match against Palace next Saturday.
Manor Solomon has another long-term absentee, a patient who had a little operation after experiencing some discomfort following knee surgery a year ago. Football.london is aware that the Israel international is scheduled to resume training in the next few days. Should he avoid any more injuries during the upcoming week, the winger—who James Maddison deemed the team’s most skilled player this week—may be able to start on the bench against Palace if Postecoglou deems him ready.
Sarr the target
Pape Matar Sarr is one Spurs player who appears to be the target of repeated taunts from the team. The Spurs players, who refer to him as “Star Boy,” frequently grab, tug, or taunt the youthful Senegalese international.
This week has been no exception, as evidenced by the club’s training video, where Micky van de Ven is seen repeatedly giving Sarr loving slaps on the back of his head and neck near where the players change into their boots before walking to the training pitches.
Eventually, the midfielder, who had been talking to someone else, turned and, with a broad smile, took the large Dutchman’s hand.
Academy Stars
Jamie Donley, who has participated in three Premier League games in the FA Cup this season, has established himself as a mainstay in first team training sessions.
Together with teenage goalkeeper Luca Gunter, the 19-year-old was trained with academy products George Abbott and Max McKnight this week.
Oliver Skipp, the midfield player who is a great example of how to graduate from the north London club’s academy to become a Premier League player, was appropriately seated next to them in the boot-up area.
Flying Brennan
In several of Postecoglou’s offensive drills, players are tasked with cutting down the flanks and then crossing low into the center so that a teammate can score the first goal.
A brief diversion from that occurred during a training session when Rodrigo Bentancur misdirected a pass, allowing Donley to tap it into the path of captain Son Heung-min. When the South Korean star looked up, Brennan Johnson was sprinting in, and he perfectly crossed the ball for the Wales international to jump for.
With goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario left in no man’s land, the 22-year-old struck with a beautiful volley, sending it into the net via the inside of the right-hand post.
Shortly after, a low cross from Timo Werner found young McKnight, who slid a shot past Alfie Whiteman and into the net’s roof.
Bentancur top bins
But, Bentancur demonstrated his talent from a distance during one of the workouts, proving that it’s not just about close-range objectives.
Whiteman was beaten even though he threw himself at the net, as the Uruguayan displayed his characteristic calmness to move the ball to his left foot and curl a gorgeous drive from just inside the area into the upper left corner.
During the club’s matchday program for the Wolves game, Bentancur stated, “I feel really good in myself,” in an interview. “Physically, I felt fantastic going into the Manchester United match. However, we went two weeks without playing, so in terms of match fitness, I had to admit that I found it difficult to return after that.
“I think I’m returning to my pre-injury form bit by bit. I acknowledge that I’m still a little off that at the moment, but between the two injuries, I was out for more than nine, almost ten months, which is a considerable amount of time. I simply need to be composed, keep up my hard work, and continue training like I have been, and soon I’ll be back to my regular level.”
