CLUB URGED TO SIGN TOTTENHAM ACE THIS SUMMER BUT £15M FEE IS ‘JUST TOO MUCH’
Leeds United have been warned that £15 million is ‘just too much’ for Joe Rodon despite the on-loan defender impressing after joining from Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s been said that you should never fall in love with a player on loan. Furthermore, Joe Rodon’s incredible performances since moving up from the division above can make you think of Ben White breaking Leeds’ hearts by returning to Brighton following that incredible season under Marcelo Bielsa in 2019–20.
Thankfully, Rodon doesn’t seem to be worth as much at Tottenham Hotspur as White was at The Amex. If Daniel Farke is able to add a third Championship promotion to his impressive resume, Leeds should have a lot better chance of signing the Welshman on a full-time basis.
Tottenham loanee shining at Leeds United
Carlton Palmer, who attended Leeds for three years in the middle of the 1990s, thinks Spurs won’t likely obstruct Rodon this summer. However, Rodon’s availability is not Leeds’ biggest issue; rather, it’s the possible expenses of a permanent transfer.
Will he rejoin the Spurs? The former England international tells Football League World, “No, he won’t.” “£10–£15 million is a substantial sum of money.” So, at the end of the season, Leeds United are going to have a look at when they are promoted, see where they see it at.
“(Rodon should cost) around £8 million, in my opinion. Ten to fifteen million pounds is simply too much.
“If Leeds is promoted, then the discussion must take place. He is capable of playing in the Premier League.
Rodon has only appeared in 15 Premier League games for Tottenham after joining the team from Swansea City back in 2020. The tall Welshman has virtually doubled that amount at Leeds, where he played the entire ninety minutes during Farke’s free-scoring team’s 4-0 midweek demolition of his former employers at the Liberty Stadium.
Six players in the Championship average more than Rodon’s 4.7 clearances per game; the 6′ 4in giant is a potential long-term replacement for the venerable Liam Cooper and an old-school, throwback center-half.
Daniel Farke full of praise for Joe Rodon
When asked if Rodon will remain at Elland Road after the campaign, Farke responded, “Behind the scenes we’re working, there’s no doubt about this,” to the Yorkshire Evening Post in January. “We couldn’t be happier with Joe, his performances, or the way he’s growing. You watch him develop into a more and more capable leader.
“I believe he is content to be here and to play a significant role in the squad.” He was a major contributor to our excellent performances, therefore we’re overjoyed. Although it’s not an urgent matter, we would prefer that he stay a little while longer.
Joe is not yet a player for us, but he is in our plans. We rely somewhat on the opinions of the other parties regarding this matter. We will undoubtedly make an effort to work behind the scenes. You are aware of my admiration for Joe, his worth to the squad, and how much I enjoy him.
