TOTTENHAM’S STAR PLAYER: BRYAN GIL’S ROLE IN SEVILLA LANDING ALEJO VÉLIZ REVEALED
An insight into the part played by former Sevilla star Bryan Gil in the club’s January deal for Alejo Véliz has been provided this evening.
The information was provided by Véliz, who spoke with reporters this week for the first time since joining Sevilla.
Véliz, for his part, signed a loan agreement at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán last week, which runs through the summer.
The 20-year-old naturally struggled to play time at Tottenham Hotspur, a successful Premier League team, given the intense competition for spots in the final third.
Speaking earlier today, Véliz also disclosed that his final choice to join Sevilla was influenced by another member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad in north London.
The player in query? Bryan Gil.
A product of Andalusia’s youth setup himself, wide-man Gil recently accompanied Véliz on a visit to his old residence.
Additionally, the following factors were significant in the Argentine’s decision to join Sevilla as the next logical step in his career:
About a month and a half ago, Bryan and I traveled here, where I got to know Sevilla and his village. I communicated with Bryan before coming here, and he always had extremely great things to say about the club. I questioned him a lot, and he told me to “go for it, brother.”
In addition, Véliz shared details about the efforts made by his new teammates to assist him in adjusting, noting that Erik Lamela, another former Tottenham player, had given more than just a helping hand:
“I consider myself really fortunate to have adjusted so rapidly because of the guys, particularly the Argentines. To be honest, I’m thrilled that I took this professional step. Everything transpired in a flash. Coco has shown us such warmth; we’ve already constructed a very nice bond. I feel quite comfortable right now because he asked me to his house and we had a nice conversation.
