He’s willing to leave: Spurs star to be shown the exit door in January
An exit for a “sensational” Tottenham Hotspur regular may be edging closer as they tell him he’s free to leave, with a replacement apparently “lined up”.
Spurs making transfer plans for January
As has been widely reported—and manager Ange Postecoglou has even confirmed—Spurs are getting ready to potentially sign more players during the January transfer window.
In an interview with Sky Sports, the Lilywhites manager hinted that his team will be busy in the winter transfer window as they look to add players in other positions and find a new center back.
“It’s going to be a challenging month for us because you’re talking about three players in Pape, Biss and Sonny who have been very important to what we’re trying to build,” Postecoglou said on the Spurs transfers.
“Hopefully, the players we now have stay healthy at that time. We are losing three incredibly important players: Maddison, Van de Ven, and Rodrigo Bentancur.
“It’s going to be a challenging period and January is always a difficult transfer window to get things done particularly quickly, so I think we’re preparing ourselves for that.”
The north Londoners, like many other Premier League teams, might need to exercise caution when it comes to FFP and avoid sailing too close to the wind.
Due to Spurs’ substantial summer squad investment and the high demand for star players come mid-season, defender Jean-Clair Todibo and forward Serhou Guirassy—two highly sought-after Spurs transfer targets—become rather alluring.
Todibo is estimated to be worth £35 million, and Guirassy’s contract has a release clause worth £15 million. Spurs may want to sell on players like midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in order to raise money for fresh additions for Postecoglou.
Although he has usually played off the bench, the Dane has appeared in the great majority of Tottenham’s league games this season. As a result, Hojbjerg is apparently willing to leave Spurs, and they may sign a midfield improvement in his place.
Tottenham tell Hojbjerg to leave with successor “lined up”
As per journalist Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, Spurs have informed Hojbjerg that he is free to depart, and they have a “lined up” replacement for him.
The article claims that the Lilywhites have set a price tag of approximately £20 million for potential suitors, and they will approve his departure as soon as they do sign his successor.
Even though Hojbjerg is an important player of the team, he is keen to join a team where he can receive regular starts. This season, Postecoglou has been referred to as “very important” by reporter Seb Stafford-Bloor, who has termed him “sensational”.
“It is obvious someone that has played regularly would have wanted to play more but ultimately our performances have been strong and he has had to bide his time,” Postecoglou stated on Hojbjerg.
In many of the games that we have needed to shore up late or that we have won late, he has also been crucial. He’s not the only one who has helped us; in fact, he hasn’t done anything at all. He has played a pivotal role in our journey. If we were only dependent on our starting lineup, we wouldn’t be in this situation.”
