‘Pathetic’… Ian Wright was really angry with decision over £5m West Ham player yesterday
On what proved to be an excellent afternoon for David Moyes’ West Ham United yesterday, Ian Wright was still fuming with one moment.
All three players—Lucas Paqueta, Muhammad Kudus, and Jarrod Bowen—were excellent; they could have played at the highest level.
And even though the afternoon was going well overall, Ian Wright was still perplexed by one particular instance.
Wright was upset that Vladimir Coufal had not at least been given a yellow card when he spoke on the BBC’s Match of the Day 2.
The full-back appeared to elbow a Wolves player in the first half, but VAR checked for a potential red card, so it wouldn’t have been too unfair. Nevertheless, no action was taken.
“This is sad, that’s the only way I can,” Wright questioned the choice to not even book Coufal. “Gary O’Neil got booked in this game, this guy didn’t even get booked, Coufal, he didn’t even get booked.
“Look at his elbow, look, how is that not even a booking? Come on man.
“It’s ridiculous, it’s ridiculous, that is ridiculous, and it’s pointless saying anything.”
Ian Wright is perplexed by West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal’s lack of booking
Wright could have easily criticized Coufal for his lack of activity, of course, while he was concentrating on it.
Given how well-played and in control West Ham was, the incident seemed so unnecessary.
Additionally, £5 millionAlthough Coufal has been playing really well this season, he made a mistake this time.
Wright and even West Ham supporters may agree that the rules in this particular instance are illogical.
According to established protocols, the referee cannot retroactively issue a yellow card even though the elbow may have been a red.
As Wright mentioned, Gary O’Neil did receive a yellow card for his own protests, one that West Ham fans may again sympathise with.
All that being said, it does remain a brilliant win and performance for The Hammer, one that Moyes needed in the league.
Moreover, with that front three in place, there’s plenty of reason for optimism over the festive period.
And given his display, Roy Keane was blown away by one West Ham forward.
