Tottenham ex-player could be the solution to Ange’s side; talks to re-join currently on-going
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window…
Ange Postecoglou is rumored to be pursuing a new player who could help give depth to a crucial area in N17 as Tottenham Hotspur searches for new additions in January.
Tottenham Hotspur transfer updates…
Under Postecoglou’s guidance, Spurs have made some incredibly encouraging progress toward becoming a team that can compete at the top of the Premier League table. Nevertheless, the Australian will be eager to make sure his team adds enough quality in January to sustain their push for a top-four finish.
Tottenham appears to be worried about their midfield, and recent rumors indicate that Adam Wharton of Blackburn Rovers is being watched in north London due to a string of standout performances from the teenage player in the Championship.
Even so, there will be fierce competition for his services as Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle United will all be keeping a close eye on him. Both teams are reportedly on good terms after Ashley Phillips was sold by Blackburn Rovers to the Lilywhites in the summer, which could give Tottenham an advantage in negotiations.
Conversely, Football Insider reports that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp, who will remain with the Spurs in January due to their lack of options to bolster their engine room, appear to have suffered from Rodrigo Bentancur’s long-term injury.
Due to various injury concerns, Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Richarlison, Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Pape Sarr, and Uruguay international Bentancur are all out of the picture. This leaves Postecoglou lacking options in several crucial areas amidst a packed fixture schedule.
As the January transfer window draws near, it is now evident which position Spurs want to bolster, according to a report.
Tottenham Hotspur eye Koki Machida
Sport Witness reports from Belgium state that Tottenham is considering a move for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise defender Koki Machida, with talks having taken place regarding the Japan international.
Spurs have not made an official offer, but it is thought that Royale Union Saint-Gilloise would consider selling the 26-year-old for €15 million (£12.8 million). However, selling Machida and then re-signing him on a loan basis through the end of the season would be the best course of action for the Jupiler Pro League team.
Unusually, Machida can also generate opportunities from long range and poses a respectable offensive threat. This is demonstrated by the fact that he has completed 21 successful shot-creating actions in the Jupiler Pro League this season (Machida statistics – FBRef).
Looking ahead, Tottenham’s injury crisis might be resolved by doing much worse than pursuing the Japanese defender in January.
