“Ready to sell”: Club gives greenlight to possible Kane’s perfect replacement

Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that Lille would be ready to sell rumoured Tottenham target Jonathan David for less than €40m (£35m) in January.

Over the past several weeks, there have been a lot of rumors circulating that the Spurs are considering David as a potential number nine to take Harry Kane’s spot.

In fact, according to a TEAMtalk report from last month, Ange Postecoglou’s team has a “firm intention” to pursue the Canadian international in January.

Although Lille demanded that interested teams fulfill David’s €60 million (£52 million) release clause last summer, according to a source from L’Equipe (as cited by GFFN) last week, they would accept a lower cost for the striker in January given his recent decline in play.

Now, Gazzetta has confirmed that Milan has chosen the 23-year-old to take Olivier Giroud’s place, which lends credence to the initial report.

According to the outlet, Rossoneri believe David to be the final piece in their puzzle and that he possesses all the qualities needed to succeed in Stefano Pioli’s squad.

According to rumors, Lille would be willing to sell the striker for less than €40 million (£35 million), with Milan hoping to take advantage of the chance to buy the player at a “discount” because his contract expires in 2025.

David would surely be the least expensive of all the number nines we have been linked to in recent weeks (Ivan Toney, Santiago Gimenez, Dusan Vlahovic, etc.). The Canadian does not seem to be at the top of Postecoglou’s priority list, though.
