According to speculations, Tottenham may transfer another player to Bayern Munich in January. In an effort to improve his defensive options, Thomas Tuchel may send Eric Dier to the Allianz Arena in addition to his former teammate Harry Kane.
Since Ange Postecoglou was hired as head coach, Dier has slipped down the Tottenham hierarchy. Last season, he made 31 Premier League starts, but so far this year, he hasn’t played a single minute in all competitions.
The signing of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have developed a strong defensive partnership, and because Spurs don’t play any European games, the first-choice tandem has less work to do. In nine games, Dier has only been selected for the matchday squad three times and has not yet entered the game from the bench.
After entering the final year of his contract, he chose to stay and compete for his position despite leave rumors in the summer. However, a transfer during the winter transfer window might be in the works.
The Bayern Insider podcast from Bild claims that Bayern manager Tuchel wants to bring in a center-back in January. Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea is reportedly his top aim.
But it’s rumored that Bayern management rejected the idea of acquiring Chalobah and put an end to it in the summer. Therefore, according to the podcast, it seems improbable that Chalobah will relocate to Germany in January.
Tuchel will need to go elsewhere, and Dier is one possibility being considered, as Bild reported earlier this month. Although Dier will have a strong endorsement from close friend Kane, he will turn 30 early next year.
On the eve of the new season, Kane switched from Tottenham to Bayern. With nine goals in the Bundesliga and one in the Champions League, he has made an immediate impact.
Dier and Bayern could agree on a pre-contract so that Dier can join them for nothing in the summer of 2019. But Tuchel might prefer to wait until January and add defensive reinforcements now.
Hugo Lloris, another mainstay of Spurs, is also out of the running under Postecoglou. The pair hasn’t discussed their positions with the Australian coach.
Perhaps I should discuss the pecking order with them, but I don’t (see the need to) because that would suggest I have been treating them differently up until now, he stated in September. From my perspective, nothing has changed, and if a player needs clarification on anything, I’m always there, but I haven’t felt the need to speak with them one-on-one about anything.
They are Tottenham players and have been since the first game, so they are available for selection. There has been no change.
