Report: £20k-per-week ace set to leave after rejecting contract offer, Everton are interested
According to reports, Ben Johnson are considering Ben Johnson.
According to Claret & Hugh, the defender appears ready to depart West Ham, which is what they say.
Johnson joined the Irons 17 years ago, and in February 2019 he made his Premier League debut. Before agreeing to a two-year contract extension, the fullback was named West Ham’s Young Player of the Season in both 2021 and 2022.
Johnson has only made one Carabao Cup appearance this year, and his playing time has been restricted.
The 23-year-old’s current contract with West Ham was due to expire next summer, but the report claims he is dissatisfied with the new terms. The defender will now be put available for transfer because it is now improbable that he will accept the new contract.
Johnson might depart the team in January, but that would depend on if the Hammers could find a suitable successor. If not, he could conclude his stay in the summer instead.
The out-of-favor full-back is reportedly being pursued by a number of clubs, including Everton, Southampton, and Luton Town. The England U21 international is also reportedly interested in moving to Everton.
Ben Johnson would be a solid addition
Following his debut, Ben Johnson has shown great promise for West Ham, and if not for back-to-back Young Player of the Season accolades, he would undoubtedly be vying for a regular spot in the starting lineup.
Johnson is viewed as Emerson’s backup, and David Moyes has appreciated his adaptability. However, it appears that Moyes is unwilling to match Johnson’s contract requirements in order to retain him.
The Toffees, who have struggled to find talent in those full-back positions since the days of Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines, would undoubtedly benefit much from the arrival of Johnson.
Since the West Ham academy graduate makes very meager pay, a move to Goodison Park would undoubtedly be alluring, particularly if they can maintain their Premier League status. However, how fervently he desires to remain in London will determine that.
