Amazing Postecoglou fan moment goes viral as chairman delivers big endorsement: ‘It was easy’

The appointment of Ange Postecoglou as head coach, according to Daniel Levy, of Tottenham Hotspur, has been “a breath of fresh air.”

Since taking over as Spurs manager, Postecoglou has had an instant impact, leading the team to a perfect start to the Premier League season after five games.

His efforts were recognized last week when he won the management award for the Premier League’s month of August, defeating competitors including Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, David Moyes, and Mikel Arteta.

Initial reactions to Postecoglou’s hiring were mixed, but Spurs’ promising start to the season has rapidly changed the conversation.

Levy explained why he recruited Postecoglou at a Spurs fan conference this week, despite the fact that Postecoglou did not have the resume of his predecessors, Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho, who both failed miserably to live up to expectations during their separate tenures as Spurs coaches.

“I would say Ange is just a normal bloke and it was wonderful to be able to have a conversation with him where we could talk about anything and he was very direct and honest,” Levy added. “It was very easy because Ange is just a normal bloke.”

“I prefer people who just give me the truth; I don’t appreciate people who play games or who say one thing to me and another. The foundation of this club needed to be restored.

“To be very honest, there was a lot of pressure on me to choose a big name. The only qualities I was looking for in a candidate were understanding our club’s DNA, playing offensive football, believing in the academy, giving young players a chance, developing relationships with the supporters, and being able to work as a team member.

“Ange, I have to say, is a breath of fresh air.”

After Mauricio Pochettino left, Levy continued, he chased after managers like Conte and Mourinho due to the pressure of winning and the need to appease the Spurs fan base.

Even though it means the club’s search for trophies would be longer, he believes the choice to select Postecoglou was the right one.

“I want to win as badly as anyone else, but the pressure from maybe some players and from a large portion of the fanbase that we need to win, we need to spend money, we need to have a big manager, we need to have a big name, it affected me,” he continued.

“I had experienced a time when we came close to winning. With Mauricio [Pochettino], we experienced some truly wonderful moments. Though we fell short, we came extremely close and changed our approach.

“The strategy was ‘let’s bring in a trophy manager’. We did it twice and look you have to learn from your mistakes. They’re great managers but maybe not for this club.

“We want to play in a certain way and if that means it has to take a little bit longer to win maybe it’s the right thing for us. That’s why bringing Ange in was from my point of view the right decision.”

Ange’s fan forum intervention that’s going viral

When the fan forum was coming to an end, the event’s MC attempted to wrap up proceedings but Postecoglou intervened to allow a young fan to ask one final question.

The heartwarming moment is going viral on social media.

“He’s got the best question, come on” Postecoglou said.

“How much are you going to win by?” the fan asked.

“We will do our best. Everybody involved in the football club. My side, Robert’s (Vilahamn) side, Beth (England) and Sonny (Heung-Min Son),” Postecoglou responded.

“I think we have all said tonight, we understand what it means to all of you… this football club and our role is to make you happy and proud everytime we go out there.”
