West Ham United must cut ties with Jesse Lingard after latest David Moyes quotes
Jesse Lingard is continuing to train with West Ham with a view to being handed a contract by the club.
Lingard’s predicament is the same as it was on day one, despite spending more than a month improving his fitness in the shadows at Rush Green.
On Wednesday [20 September], David Moyes stated that there had been no progress in securing the former Manchester United player a long-term contract.
At his pre-match press conference before his team’s Europa League encounter against Backa Topola, Moyes continued, “We’re keeping him in training and he joined training today as well.
But he’s definitely becoming much more physically capable of the Jesse [of old], in my opinion, than he was when we brought him in four weeks ago.
Those comments came on the back of Six Foot Two editor Sean Whetstone reporting that Lingard’s hopes of landing a deal are “diminishing”.
At each news conference, Moyes is now asked for an update on the Englishman’s future, and the response is always the same.
After a recent cordial discussion held behind closed doors and these extra few weeks, if a decision was not reached, isn’t it time to sever all ties?
If Lingard is not paid, allowing him to train with the team is beneficial, but there is a limit to how long he may look for a contract.
Furthermore, West Ham doesn’t exactly need more alternatives in attacking midfield or on the wings right now.
Lingard is preceded by Jarrod Bowen, James Ward-Prowse, Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus, Said Benrahma, and Pablo Fornals.
We all have fond memories of Lingard in a West Ham shirt, but for both the club’s sake and his, it is surely now time to move on.
