Tottenham want to sign £50m star on deadline day but there is one major obstacle-report

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move to sign Chelsea star Conor Gallagher on deadline day but they need to offload Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg first, according to the Evening Standard.

The North London club is looking to sign the England international before the transfer season closes as manager Ange Postecoglou aims to upgrade his midfield.

The 23-year-old Chelsea star will not officially be available for transfer until Spurs part ways with their Danish midfielder, according the source.

Hojbjerg joined Tottenham in 2020 after being acquired by them from Southampton. The 28-year-old has, however, spent this season warming the bench for Postecoglou.

The midfielder has been closely associated with Atletico Madrid, who are expected to take him on an initial loan. The Evening Standard reports that Spurs demand an obligation to buy clause be inserted in every agreement.

It remains to be seen whether Hojbjerg will end up leaving Tottenham on deadline day. If he does, the North Londoners are expected to step up their interest in Gallagher but a deal won’t come cheap. The newspaper says Chelsea want £50m to part ways with the midfielder.

Will Gallagher join a London rival?

Gallagher graduated from the Stamford Bridge team’s academy. The midfielder had the chance to thrive at Chelsea after his successful loan stint at Crystal Palace last season.

He hasn’t been able to secure a spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting lineup, though. With Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Romeo Lavia at Pochettino’s disposal, the competition for spots in the Blues’ midfield is fierce right now.

Therefore, it is possible that Tottenham may persuade Gallagher to move to North London by promising him consistent playing time. For a berth in the middle of the park at Spurs, he would face competition from Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, and James Maddison.

In the last hours before the transfer window closes, will Gallagher join Spurs? Time will only tell. If a deal could be reached, he would be a valuable addition for Tottenham.
