Ange Postecoglou admits £27m Tottenham man is unfortunate not to be playing more

Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, said that Giovani Lo Celso’s lack of more frequent appearances this season has been unfortunate.

After their 2-0 victory against Bournemouth, Postecoglou was speaking via Football London.

Under the Australian coach, Tottenham has started strong and is now unbeaten in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou appears to have selected his preferred lineup after carefully scrutinizing his team during preseason.

Postecoglou evaluated more than 30 players throughout the summer.

He welcomed back plenty of players who were out of favour under Antonio Conte or sent on loan last season.

Some have excelled, such as Destiny Udogie, who joined the team right away.

Others, like Tanguy Ndombele and Joe Rodon, seem to have no future at the Spurs.

Giovani Lo Celso, who hasn’t yet appeared more frequently for Tottenham under Postecoglou, appears likely to contribute this season.

He was given his chance against Bournemouth after not being used as a substitute against Brentford and Man United.

It’s easy to see why his minutes might be limited this season given how well James Maddison has started at Spurs.

Postecoglou says Lo Celso has been unlucky not to play more

Postecoglou responded to a question regarding the Argentine playmaker by saying, “As I said yesterday, he’s been a bit unlucky. He did well for us when he came on.

“When he came on for us, I thought all the subs performed admirably. I thought all the substitutes performed admirably simply to aid in our game management.

He will play in the game on Tuesday night. For want of a better phrase, it will be a fun week. We undoubtedly have a lot going on.

“I’m only focusing on the task at hand. If not instructed otherwise, I’ll work with the team I have and concentrate on Tuesday night.

When he plays Fulham tomorrow, the £27 million player will be looking to establish his value as a player.

After been unlucky not to capitalise on his outstanding pre-season thus far, Postecoglou will want to see Lo Celso at his best and give him a difficult decision to make in the future.

The 27-year-old’s transfer may yet be possible in the closing days of the window.

If Lo Celso were to go, however, Tottenham wouldn’t have an obvious replacement for Maddison.
