‘I never thought’: Paul Merson shocked by Tottenham transfer rumour ‘I keep hearing’

Paul Merson has shared that he ‘never thought in a million years’ Harry Kane would secure a transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich.

But now that the 30-year-old Tottenham striker’s contract is about to expire, “I keep hearing” that he might sign with Bayern Munich this month.

According to the former Arsenal player, Harry Kane will only be eligible for the Golden Boot award if he stays at Spurs for the upcoming Premier League season.

Though it appears that Kane leaving England and moving to Germany has some legs after Daniel Levy recently met with Bayern officials.

The England captain knows that he needs championships for his resume and that he won’t get them at Hotspur Way.

Because Merson supported him for the Golden Boot, despite the fact that there now appears to be some truth to the Bayern Munich rumors, he is where he is in terms of not signing a new contract this summer.

If Harry Kane stays, “I’m going for him to score the most goals this season,” stated Merson. “The more I hear about this Bayern Munich phenomenon, which I believed would never, ever happen in a million years, the more interested I become in it.

“But it keeps on going on and on. If he stays at Tottenham, people forget what he did last season. He was in a bad Tottenham team and scored 30 Premier League goals. They finished outside of Europe. He finished six behind Haaland in the league and Tottenham really didn’t play well.

“Now, they have got Maddison, who I think will make a lot of goals for him, so I would go for Harry Kane as the top-scorer.”

If Kane stays…

Then it alters Tottenham’s season and gives Ange Postecoglou, the new manager, some breathing room.

It’s unfair to Tottenham’s new manager because he entered a crisis situation that has the potential to go worse.

As Merson noted, if Kane stays, he will likely win the Golden Boot, but for Kane to consider that he might lose that in the upcoming weeks is very unsettling.
