Recent Update: Tottenham now closing in on another ‘phenomenal’ signing besides Van de Ven – Report
Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a productive summer on the transfer front and they don’t seem done yet.
Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon have all been signed by Spurs thus far.
Additionally, there are current rumors circulating that Tottenham is nearing a deal to sign Micky van de Ven.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs and Wolfsburg are nearing an agreement about the defender.
Even better, Tottenham might not have stopped at Van de Ven when it comes to fresh acquisitions.
The Athletic reports that Spurs hope to sign Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers this weekend.
Adam Leventhal shared an update on Twitter, with a link to the article on The Athletic’s website.
The 18-year-old’s £2 million release clause has been satisfied by Tottenham, and other bidders have until Friday to submit their offers.
Therefore, it is anticipated that the deal will be finished over the weekend unless someone else steps in.
Spurs believed they already had a deal in place a few weeks prior, even going so far as to schedule a physical.
Blackburn apparently raised its asking price to £5 million plus an additional £4.5 million.
According to the article, it now appears that the two parties are close to coming to a settlement.
‘He’s an exciting prospect’
“As a defender, you’re judged on keeping the ball out of the net and winning your individual duels. He is just a boy but he’s got some amazing attributes. We’ve got high hopes that he can progress quickly.”
It’s good to see that Tottenham are close to clearing the hurdles that have reportedly hampered this move.
Phillips is an outstanding talent and he has a lot of potential, having already played senior football for Blackburn.
Let’s see what happens in the coming days. Hopefully it won’t be long before Spurs are announcing him and Van de Ven.
