After Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Alan Sugar has joined the conversation about the VAR dispute.
When Luis Diaz scored in the first half, the Reds were denied the chance to get on the board first. Video replays clearly demonstrated that Diaz was in a legal position despite being called offside; however, VAR referee Darren England made a critical mistake.
After initially releasing a statement insisting to “explore the range of options available” to them in order to reach a resolution, Liverpool has now asked referee association PGMOL to reveal the audio footage recorded between the match officials.

As a result of Curtis Jones’ red card, which on-field referee Simon Hooper changed from a yellow after viewing the event on the pitchside monitor, the Reds already had a numerical disadvantage.
Despite Jurgen Klopp’s team playing magnificently and finishing with nine men when Diogo Jota was also given the boot, the visitors were devastated by a Joel Matip own goal in stoppage time.
However, Lord Sugar, the former chairman of Tottenham and host of BBC’s The Apprentice, expressed sympathy for Liverpool and the measures they are doing. On Twitter, he posted: “Spurs vs. Liverpool: I have to admit, even though I support Tottenham, Liverpool has a strong argument. Obviously, their objective should have been respected. At the conclusion of the season, Liverpool may pay a price for that error.
“I welcomed the introduction of VAR and goal line technology. In a match against Manchester United when Martin Jol was in charge, the goalie scooped a ball from three feet into the net, but no goal was awarded. It was shown in crystal clear detail on the day’s contest. That game could have been a tie, but we lost 1-0.
