Despite his recent return to the Tottenham team’s bench, Eric Dier is not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the club.
Despite not having played a single minute for the new Spurs manager, the 29-year-old has had a difficult time so far this season under the Australian.
Dier was ready to leave Tottenham during the summer transfer window, but nothing came of it.
The defender’s contract in north London has less than a year left to run.
Dier was reinstated to the bench for recent matches against Sheffield United and Arsenal, but it is unlikely that he will contribute significantly to Spurs’ 2023–24 season, which may be his final with the club.
He was left off the roster after Tottenham was defeated by Fulham in the second round of the League Cup last month.
With one of his first moves after taking over at the Lilywhites, Postecoglou strengthened their defense by bringing in Micky van de Van from Wolfsburg.
Davinson Sanchez, whose contract was approaching its end, left Spurs for Galatasaray earlier this month.
Van de Ven has shared the field with World Cup champion Cristian Romero as Postecoglou’s team has made a strong start to the 2023–24 season.
In all competitions last season, Dier made 42 appearances while playing only as a center-back.
The 49-cap England superstar can play in defensive midfield as well.
He has been a regular for Spurs since joining the club from Sporting CP nine years ago but penned his last contract extension in 2020.

Tottenham Hotspur has agreed to meet Fiorentina’s asking price for Dusan Vlahovic, according to a report from the Serbian daily Sport Klub.
Vlahovic’s name has been more well-known as a result of his outstanding achievements for La Viola last season, during which the striker scored 21 goals in Serie A.
The Serbian international has reportedly been named as a potential Harry Kane successor by Tottenham’s new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, according to earlier Italian sources.
Some sources stated earlier this week that Spurs were competing with AC Milan and Atletico Madrid for the 21-year-old’s signature.
Sport Klub have now revealed that while Milan, Atletico and even Juventus hold interest in Vlahovic, none of those clubs are ready to meet Fiorentina’s €60m (£51.m) asking price for the striker.
The report adds, however, that Spurs have agreed to pay the fee and Vlahovic is thus edging closer to a move to the North London club.
The only way I can see us spending over £50m on a striker is if we cash in on Harry Kane. So, if Spurs do agree on such a deal for Vlahovic, that is perhaps a sign that the club are getting their signings in early before Kane’s sale as they did back in 2013 when Gareth Bale moved to Madrid.
Report: Tottenham fans receive bad news about Micky Van de Ven transfer
The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham’s pursuit of Wolfsburg centre-back Micky Van de Ven is currently not progressing.
The report states that an agreement between Spurs and Wolfsburg is not yet close but the North London club ‘could try again’ to resurrect the deal.

Tottenham are said to have been left with the impression that the Bundesliga side do not wish to sell the centre-back but other sources allegedly believe the defender will be allowed to leave if there is a sufficiently big enough offer.
Spurs struggling to sign Micky Van de Ven
The outlet explains that the challenge for Tottenham or any other potential suitor is that Van de Ven signed a new deal just months ago and is contracted to Wolfsburg until 2027, which is why the German side are under no pressure to sell the player.
The Athletic add that agreeing personal terms with the 22-year-old is not an issue for Spurs, with the deal now depending on striking an agreement with Wolfsburg.
It does appear as if Tottenham have now shifted their attention away from Van de Ven and Tapsoba, and towards a deal for Tosin Adarabioyo, if they can beat Monaco to him (FootMercato).
I still expect Spurs to go back in for either the Wolfsburg or the Leverkusen star, but perhaps the Lilywhites are first waiting for the Kane sale to go through first.
