Will head coach wins fight to reach West Ham United transfer agreement

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s transfer to West Ham comes after agent Will Salthouse “fought hard” to agree a compromise with Manchester United, according to Sean Whetstone.
Manchester United had reportedly been holding out for £18million to sell Wan-Bissaka, but the Irons will instead pay just £15m for the right-back, who is on his way to London to begin his medical with the club [Dharmesh Sheth, 10 August].
Salthouse has also been involved in Wan-Bissaka negotiating a £5.6m pay off, having initially asked for £7m as he leaves Old Trafford, allowing both Manchester United and the Hammers a financial reprieve.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka transfer compromise a good sign for West Ham
Money certainly hasn’t been short at the London Stadium this summer, with the Irons shelling out over £115m on their six permanent signings so far in the window – two of which were free transfers!
A further £34million has also reportedly been committed to make Jean-Clair Todibo’s move from OGC Nice permanent in 2025 at the culmination of his season-long loan [Fabrice Hawkins, 9 August], in another statement of intent.
Adding Wan-Bissaka to a new-look Hammers backline will not only give Julen Lopetegui a huge step-up in quality, but doing so for just £15m [David Ornstein, 10 August] represents fantastic value for money on the right-back.
Bartering Manchester United down from £18m may not seem like a bargain, but it shows that Salthouse and director of football Tim Steidten aren’t willing to throw money at players willy-nilly.
With Wan-Bissaka on the brink of completing his move to the London Stadium; Salthouse, Steidten, Lopetegui and every single Irons fan are anticipating the rewards of yet another strong piece of business.
In other West Ham news, one journalist said he was “giddy” at the though of Julen Lopetegui’s possible starting XI at the London Stadium.
