“I hit my thigh” – Tottenham player on injury concerns after ‘limping’ on national duties

Son Heung-min of Tottenham has expressed his gratitude to South Korea boss Jürgen Klinsmann for allowing him the chance to play a part in Tuesday’s 6-0 victory over Vietnam.

The attacker missed training last week as a result of a groin ailment, which also prevented him from playing against Tunisia. Klinsmann said there was some doubt about his participation in yesterday’s match two days ago.

The Tottenham star scored a goal and provided an assist against Vietnam while playing the whole 90 minutes.

According to Yonhap News Agency, when questioned about his physical condition following the match, he responded: “Injuries are an unavoidable part of life as a footballer. I debated playing in today’s game, but I couldn’t accept traveling to Korea and not taking the field in front of the crowd.

“After talking with the coach, I informed him that I would participate in the game. Although I couldn’t participate in much of the practice, I appreciate the coach’s respect for my choice.

The 31-year-old was reportedly observed ‘limping’ during the intermission and had previously complained of pain during the second half against Vietnam, according to FourFourTwo Korea. They claim that due to the South Korean international’s groin issue, “there are concerns.”

However, the attacker feels otherwise and thinks his time against Vietnam will benefit him when he rejoins the north London club.

“Hopefully it won’t be too much. You should avoid playing this kind of football if you are concerned about getting hurt from the frequent collisions and ferocious competitiveness, Son said.

“This kind of collision is why I love football. In the first half, I accidentally hit my thigh, but it wasn’t a major deal. I believe that participating fully in today’s game will benefit my physical health and performance when I return to my club.

Ange Postecoglou will be pleased by Son’s words but will still be concerned about his fitness before Spurs play Fulham on Monday. He is a vital player for Tottenham, who are currently at the top of the table, and has six goals in eight league games.
