Daryl Dike hails ‘superstar’ West Brom teammate Andy Carroll
One of the more unanticipated signings of the January window was that of Andy Carroll to West Brom but it has worked a treat for the Baggies.
The 33-year-old arrived in the Midlands having recently ended a short-term stay with relegation-threatened Reading where he impressed with his old-school striking ways.
He got on the scoresheet again for Albion on Wednesday evening as Steve Bruce’s side shocked second-placed Bournemouth at The Hawthorns with a 2-0 win.
Carroll was brought in by previous manager Valerien Ismael after his marquee January signing Daryl Dike (£9million from Orlando City) picked up a substantial injury.
The 21-year-old American though loves what he’s seeing from Carrol and took to Instagram to hail the talismanic figure as a “superstar”.
Dike’s return from injury is hopefully not too far away but he’ll have to do well to displace Carroll after recent performances.
When Dike is back available again for Bruce, he will be very keen to see how the athletic American works alongside the brute that is Carroll in a strike partnership.
With the latter being able to win flick-ons for fun against any defender in the world, Dike should have a field day in chasing down the loose ball and terrorising the opposition.
If he can find his goal-scoring touch that helped fire Barnsley to the playoffs last season, He and Carroll might be the most prolific pair in the entire division.
That does however leave the likes of Karlan Grant, Callum Robinson and Grady Diangana to play second fiddle but there won’t be a team in the league that can call upon such talent off the bench which will play into Bruce’s hands.
There could be very exciting times ahead at The Hawthorns even if a playoff push looks all but over for this season.
