McKenna was confronted with a fresh quandary at the close of last season, when other teams came calling for the dashing Bombers halfback.

In Ireland’s Gaelic competition, players seldom change clubs. They join the county side that is most familiar to them, where they grew up, and stay for the rest of their careers.

“Wherever you’re born, you play for,” explains Conor McKenna, who left Ireland at the age of 18 to join Essendon in the Australian Football League.
