Pittsburgh Steelers the New Favorite To Land $242.5 Million Quarterback
This offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers could really use an upgrade at quarterback. And it appears that they have several choices.
Wilson is anticipated to become a free agent upon his release in March. This comes after he was benched by the Denver Broncos in their last games of the 2023 campaign due to a purported dispute over the guarantee triggers in his contract.
Having said that, there has been more discussion about Wilson’s possible next team. Despite his struggles over the last several years with the Broncos, he is still a capable starting quarterback in the NFL.
It’s interesting to note that when he becomes available, the Steelers are expected to be the team to sign him. As of Saturday, Pittsburgh’s chances of signing Wilson went from +1400 to -110, indicating a strong likelihood, according to NBC Sports.
For what it’s worth, it’s definitely an intriguing prospect to see the Pittsburgh Steelers and Russell Wilson to pair up. Wilson needs an established system where he can thrive, and Pittsburgh needs a QB with championship experience who can very well elevate them from a middle-of-the-pack team to title contenders.
While Fields could be a nice long-term choice, his lack of playoff experience and success at the highest level could be concerning. Hence, Wilson could be a better choice when it comes to the Steelers’ short-term goals.
Former NFL QB-turned-analyst Brady Quinn recently shared his belief that Wilson is a good fit for the Steelers, noting that everything is set up in Pittsburgh to help him recapture his superstar form.
Quinn stated on the Pick Six Podcast, “If I’m Russell Wilson, I’m like dude put me on that team,” explaining why the Broncos quarterback ought to sign with the Steelers. “They have a strong defense, an improved offensive line, and weapons on the outside.” And if you combine him with Mike Tomlin, a head coach who has won everything in his career, I believe you have a winning formula for someone seeking to reinvent their career.
Although it’s unclear if the Steelers will pursue Wilson when he becomes available, it’s certainly something to watch.
