Postecoglou confirms two new Tottenham injuries as problems mount for Spurs boss

Aston Villa will play Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. Prior to the international break, Tottenham lost their last two games against Chelsea and Wolves.

Ange Postecoglou’s honeymoon at Tottenham Hotspur appears to be over after he disclosed that his injury-ravaged team has suffered two more setbacks.

Spurs lost 4-1 at home against Chelsea after leading the Premier League table after two games prior to the international break. Spurs played with nine men at the end of the game. After being injured in the match, Micky van de Ven and James Maddison will not be able to play again until 2024. Postecoglou’s team lost 2-1 to Wolves five days later.

On Sunday, they’ll try to recover at home against Aston Villa, but the manager also has to deal with the injuries that have sidelined Richarlison, Ryan Sessegnon, Manor Solomon, and Ivan Perisic. Additionally, due to suspension, Yves Bissouma and Cristian Romero will not be playing.

But Postecoglou has two new concerns on top of all those existing issues. The Evening Standard reports that due to an injury sustained while playing for Senegal on international duty, Pape Sarr was unable to practice with the first team on Friday.

Furthermore, Ashley Phillips, a teenage center-back who was expected to be considered for selection given Tottenham’s injury woes, will be out for up to four weeks due to an ankle injury he sustained while playing for the England Under-19s. During his Friday pre-game press conference, the Australian manager provided an update on both players.

He informed reporters, “Young Ashley Phillips picked up an ankle injury with the England team.” He’s going to be gone for a bit. We’re still evaluating it, but that will likely take at least a month.

Additionally, Pape Sarr, who had a minor problem returning from the national team, is still being monitored. We’ll check in with him. He wasn’t in the gym today. Apart from that, we’ll get Destiny (Udogie) back, but (Yves) Bissouma is suspended. I believe that everything else is good.

Spurs are only two points behind Manchester City, who are currently atop the Premier League standings. However, if they lose to Villa, who are only one point behind them, they will be eliminated from the Champions League spots.
