‘Verbal agreement reached'”: Tottenham £200,000-a-week player target to ditch premier league rival for Spurs

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United want to sign Jota in the January transfer window, but the winger fancies a move to Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur instead.

That is according to 90min, which has claimed why Jota prefers a move to Tottenham.

So, what is being reported about Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Jota? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Al Ittihad winger Jota during the January transfer window, according to 90min.

Both the Magpies and Spurs are reportedly considering bids for the former Celtic star.

Despite only joining Al Ittihad from Celtic in the summer of 2023, the winger, who is valued at £200,000 per week (The Scottish Sun), is prepared to depart the Saudi Pro League team.

Newcastle wants to sign Jota, but they may run into trouble because Al Ittihad is connected to its owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Jota, who is open to all possibilities but “would love to reunite with Ange Postecoglou having worked with him for two years at Celtic,” has been mentioned by 90min as being of particular interest to Tottenham.

The winger was also connected to Spurs during the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur have advantage over Newcastle United for Jota

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur has a better chance of signing Jota in the January transfer window than Newcastle United.

To begin with, Tottenham does not have any connections with Al-Ittihad with Newcastle, therefore the North London team would have no trouble securing a deal for the 24-year-old.

Second, the winger expresses a desire to collaborate with Ange Postecoglou once more. It might play a significant role.

Jota is acquainted with Postecoglou from their time together at Celtic, and the Portuguese player may believe that his former boss may assist him in acclimating to life in the Premier League.
