“Behind the scenes” – Bentancur has helped transform Spurs man into a star

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is said to have played a heavy hand in one Spurs man’s transformation into a star.

Spurs form this season

This season, Ange Postecoglou has led Spurs on an incredible rollercoaster of form. With his fast-paced, attacking style of play, the Australian manager is winning over a lot of Tottenham fans and enjoying the best start to a Premier League season of any new manager in history.

Postecoglou, who has won eight of the league’s ten games, has received recognition for his strong start in the English metropolis. Despite losing star striker and club record goalscorer Harry Kane during the summer transfer window, the 58-year-old is yet to experience his first top flight loss as Spurs manager.

Players who had their game time drastically reduced the previous season, such as Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, are now relishing their brand-new first team duties under Postecoglou. Spurs’ new center-back duo, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, have been outstanding so far, and this week, analyst Rio Ferdinand praised them for their outstanding play.

James Maddison, an English summer acquisition for Spurs, has undoubtedly proven to be one of the best deals of the summer after contributing five assists and three goals thus far. However, Son Heung-min’s rise back to prominence as a club icon has been one of the biggest success stories to date.

Son Heung-min thriving under Postecoglou

The South Korean international and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool shared the 2022 Golden Boot honor, but Son’s season was forgettable as he managed just 10 goals in the league. But after only 10 games this season, he’s already on track to surpass that record.

The 31-year-old has been used in a new pivotal role by Postecoglou, a move that has drawn high appreciation as Son returns to his peak performance.

Regarding Son and his new position, Alan Hutton told Football Insider, “The way Ange wants Tottenham to play is very football-based, it is not long balls up the pitch.”

“Wow, Son is quite intelligent. He can connect plays and go in behind, so it really works for him. It also offers you a chance to add other wide players, like Maddison, who has been outstanding since joining, and Richarlison, if he is chosen to play beside him. There are several possibilities for them to play. Son may play there without any issues.

Bentancur pushes Son “behind the scenes”

Reliable writer Alasdair Gold, who has shared some fascinating facts about his remarkable comeback, now claims that Bentancur has contributed to Son’s transformation “behind the scenes”.

The football.london reporter stated on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast this week, “Sonny was saying himself and people don’t see these sorts of things but apparently when Sonny was out injured, Bentancur really pushed him on and really made sure he was in the right mental place to get himself back into action and fit again.”

“It’s true that Son had a challenging season the previous year, but he had someone in Bentancur who was demonstrating leadership qualities even outside of the spotlight.”
