‘Elizabedi’: Siya Kolisi teases fellow Springbok Eben Etzebeth [watch]
THE ‘ELIZABEDI’ NICKNAME HAS STUCK
The captain of the double-winning Rugby World Cup appears to only refer to the Boks lock by his new moniker ever since a nervous South African fan was captured on camera yelling “Elizabedi” during the quarterfinals rather than Etzebeth.
The viral Tik Tok video, which had everyone in stitches, depicts a young man watching TV as Etzebeth moves toward the try line to score a try during the Springboks’ thrilling 28-29 victory over France, the 2023 Rugby World Cup host nation, on October 15.
Kolisi is adoring the moniker “Elizabedi,” which Etzebeth has been given since the famous video.
Kolisi was heard yelling “Elizabedi” during the Springboks trophy trip, which got underway in Gauteng on Thursday, November 2. The crowd at the FNB Stadium roared at the sight of Etzebeth.
Kolisi was again heard using the nickname during the Springboks’ press conference after their arrival on Tuesday.
SPRINGBOKS TROPHY TOUR
The Springboks became the first side to ever win the coveted Webb Ellis Cup four times, putting their name in rugby history. In the final, the Bokke defeated the All Blacks 12–11.
The squad is currently on a trophy parade, which began on Thursday with a welcome ceremony at the Union Buildings. A media entourage and roaring audience welcomed Kolisi and the Boks as they arrived in a yellow and green bus.
