“What a signing he would be” – McAvennie desperate for club’s £40m top scorer to join West Ham
Frank McAvennie, a former West Ham United striker, has revealed his major transfer request and is urging a player worth £40 million to sign at London Stadium.
West Ham’s play this year
The Hammers had a decent start, but during the last week, they have lost their way. Following last weekend’s crushing 4-1 loss to Aston Villa, Olympiacos of Greece emerged victorious in the Europa League, ending the team’s remarkable 17-game winning streak in the continent.
West Ham has to get back on track soon going into their matchup with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, as David Moyes’ team has only managed one victory in his previous five Premier League games. After his team’s 2-1 loss to Olympiacos on Thursday, the Scotsman justified his choice to alter his starting lineup multiple times before facing Everton.
“Well, we made a lot of player changes tonight because we have a League Cup match next week and the Premier League coming up. We also had the advantage because we won the first two games in the group, so we felt free to make changes tonight,” Moores said of Olympiacos.
“However, I suppose I have to admit that, even if the Conference League games were all close games, we didn’t win them easy. Coming into Olympiakos after winning on the road in Freiburg was a positive outcome, but this wasn’t a good performance either. We undoubtedly had a larger vision in our minds, one that included Sunday.”
McAvennie wants McTominay to be sent to West Ham.
In certain spots, one could claim that West Ham still lacks actual talent. Moyes reportedly wants to acquire a new striker as the January transfer window approaches.West Ham is interested in Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, and Moyes might add Harry Maguire from Manchester United to strengthen his defense.
The midfielder for Manchester United, Scott McTominay, was another player wanted throughout the summer. Despite his paucity of opportunities, the Scotland international leads the Red Devils in Premier League goals scored at the moment. In 2023–2024, Erik ten Hag has made only sporadic calls to McTominay; Newcastle is predicted to be among the 26-year-old’s suitors.
McAvennie, a former striker for the Hammers, thinks McTominay would be a wonderful fit at West Ham. In fact, the analyst tells Football Insider that McTominay would be a great addition and that he should play for Claret and Blue.
However, McAvennie predicted that Man United would add players like Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount, and Casemiro.
This player has been transformed into an offensive midfielder by Steve Clarke. Although he has been playing in the holding midfield position, he is not one.
“He never demonstrated skill at it. Although not a terrific stopper, he is an excellent tackler. He is making progress and netting goals. If he moved to Newcastle, I would be worried. He can play brilliantly at West Ham, and I would much prefer see him there. What a great signing.
If West Ham decides to rekindle their interest in McTominay, the player might cost approximately £40 million.
