Micah Richard tips ‘outstanding’ Spurs start to start and suggest possible position to be effective
Micah Richards would love to see Gareth Southgate hand James Maddison another start against Italy on Tuesday.
In Friday’s friendly victory over Australia, Maddison earned his fifth cap for England, playing alongside Ollie Watkins at the number ten.
The Three Lions defeated the Socceroos 1-0 in a closely contested match at Wembley, with the Spurs star receiving little room or time with the ball.
Jude Bellingham is anticipated to return to the starting eleven for the Euro qualifier against Italy, thus it is unclear if the 26-year-old will keep his spot in the team.
Over the weekend, Southgate praised the Tottenham player’s abilities and his influence on the England team (Tom Barclay).
Should Maddison start again for England vs Italy?
According to Richards, Maddison demonstrated enough against Australia to earn a start against Italy, and the Spurs star can switch to the left wing if Bellingham enters the lineup.
I’d love to see Madison again, the pundit stated on the podcast The Rest Is Football. He does a fantastic job as the number 10 in my opinion. He may not have played his best the other day, in my opinion. Bellingham might start at position 10 if they choose to play him off the left.
Given that his attempts to do so against Ukraine last month failed, I do not believe Southgate would alter his formation to accommodate both Maddison and Bellingham. Therefore, I anticipate the Real Madrid player to get the start, and Maddison is likely to be dropped to the bench.
