Spurs beat three giant clubs to €14m deal for Croatian teenager
AC Milan were one of the clubs that were big admirers of Luka Vušković and even held discussions with his entourage, but he is now set to sign for Spurs.
According to Calciomercato.com, Vušković will be the next signing for Spurs, who beat the competition of the big names in European football including Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Milan to bring him to north London.
The centre-back’s name was on Milan’s wish list during the time when Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were directors, and they held a meeting with his entourage last December, but the exorbitant costs stopped any type of negotiation in its tracks.
Maldini didn’t feel like holding a follow-up meeting after learning how much the operation would cost, unlike Tottenham who convinced the player and sealed an operation worth €14m plus bonuses.
That makes Vušković Hajduk’s most expensive transfer ahead of Nikola Vlasic (now at Torino) – who moved to Everton in the summer of 2017 for €10.8m – and Nikola Kalinić who was sold in 2009 to Blackburn for €7m.
It is a lot of money, but Tottenham are paying for a 16-year-old who many believe has potential to be one of the best in the world.
It is not yet clear whether Spurs will bring forward his arrival to January, and then send him out on loan, or whether they will wait. Compared to Piqué, considered stronger than Josko Gvardiol was at his age in his homeland.

‘A big surprise’ – Player now enjoying trial with Bundesliga side after summer Tottenham exit
Kallum Cesay was one of the numerous players released by Tottenham this summer after their contracts expired, and he has yet not found a new team.
The 21-year-old has moved up the ranks at Spurs after initially joining the U18s back in 2019, but he was never able to earn a berth in the main squad.
The right-back eventually left Tottenham after his contract expired this summer, but he didn’t get the offers he wanted and a fresh opportunity is now in the works, according to Bild.
Cesay is still attempting to persuade someone to take a chance on him despite having previously played four times for Sierra Leone, and that someone might be Werder Bremen.
An article about the defender and his present trial with the Bundesliga team, which may be his next stop after leaving Tottenham, can be found on Bild.
Of course, there is no assurance of that, but the international break has provided him with the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities.
Although Clemens Fritz, head of first team football at Werder, clarified what transpired, Bild reported that it was “a big surprise” to see him on the practice field.
We’ve known him for a very long time, he said. He was given to us, and the current international break is an ideal time to accept him. Young player Kallum received an excellent schooling at Tottenham. The initial intention is for the player to practice with us for the next four days, after which we’ll see how things go. There hasn’t been a decision made yet. Both possible outcomes are possible.
