Romano says ‘brilliant’ £15m player was never actually close to leaving Tottenham this summer
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg never really came close to leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Romano, who shared the X update, also said that Spurs didn’t formally bid for Connor Gallagher of Chelsea on the final day of the transfer window. Understand that Tottenham did not submit a formal offer for Conor Gallagher on Deadline Day, stated Romano. Despite claims, there was interest but no £40 million bid.The negotiations stalled because Spurs never came close to selling Hojbjerg to Atlético. Chelsea, glad to have Conor on board.
Given that Hojbjerg hasn’t appeared to be a significant part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans, this update may come as a surprise to Tottenham fans.
Hojbjerg, a vital player for the team last season, made his only start for Ange in the EFL Cup loss at Fulham.
Furthermore, the 28-year-old is still at the height of his career given that he was formerly connected with Atletico Madrid.
