Definitely happening: Daniel Levy to get deal done on the cheap for Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has warned Tottenham fans to expect plenty of movement between now and the end of the transfer window.

Tottenham will allegedly try to cut a deal for Clement Lenglet around their friendly against Barcelona on Tuesday. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy signed the centre-back on loan from Barcelona last season, and the 28-year-old might now join the club permanently.

Last season, Lenglet made 35 appearances for Spurs in all competitions. With more departures expected before the summer transfer window ends on September 1, boss Ange Postecoglou may soon be in need of defensive reinforcements.

Tottenham have long been linked with a permanent deal for Lenglet, but according to Mundo Deportivo, they are stalling negotiations until Barcelona accepts a cheaper transfer fee.

According to reports, Spurs’ pre-season friendly match against Barcelona on Tuesday will provide the ideal atmosphere for Levy’s transfer squad to “find a solution.”

Postecoglou could sign the French international for the princely price of £4.2 million. The charge would eventually be higher, but only if certain conditions were met.

If Lenglet completes his return to north London, he will have new competition at center-back. Micky van de Ven, a pending £43 million transfer from Wolfsburg, was in the stands on Sunday to see Spurs defeat Shakhtar Donetsk.

Argentine youngster Alejo Veliz is also due to join up with Postecoglou once his £13m switch from Rosario Central is signed and sealed. With Spurs braced for a busy end to the window, they are believed to have placed four players in the shop window.

Tanguy Ndombele and Hugo Lloris are both on the transfer list, according to reports, while defenders Joe Rodon and Djed Spence are also set to be sold to move room for Lenglet.

“I don’t have a fixed number [of players] in my head, but fair to say our squad is too big at the moment,” said Postecoglou. “There are obviously guys who will look for opportunities elsewhere.

“It is not something I am involved in. I will deal with what’s in front of me and I think we’ll see some movement out over the next few weeks. We’ve obviously got a bit of time before the end of the transfer window.”
