Bulls acquire Lions pivot on loan
The Vodacom Bulls have strengthened their flyhalf stocks ahead of the second phase of the URC and the beginning of the Investec Champions Cup.

The Pretoria-based side has secured the services of Kade Wolhuter on a loan deal from the Lions, keeping him at Loftus Versfeld until 30 June 2026.
Wolhuter, a former Western Province junior standout, has been playing in Johannesburg since October 2023.
The 24-year-old playmaker, who passed his medicals last week, is eager to make an immediate impact.
“I’m super excited,” Wolhuter said. “My ambition is to get onto the pitch and start contributing, after which I’d like to have a proper tenure at the union.”
Born in Durban in 2001, Wolhuter shone as a schoolboy prodigy at Paul Roos Gymnasium and spent a developmental spell at Montpellier before turning professional.
Bulls CEO Edgar Rathbone welcomed the acquisition, highlighting the value Wolhuter will bring to the squad.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kade to Loftus. He’s a talented young player with a proven track record at age-group and professional level, and his attitude will add real value to our squad during this important period for the team.”
Cardiff have bolstered their backline with the signing of a Bulls player, who could be available for the Welsh side’s URC clash with Zebre on 29 November.
Cornel Smit arrives at the Arms Park capable of covering centre, flyhalf and wing – a level of adaptability that Cardiff boss Corniel van Zyl believes will make him an invaluable asset.
Van Zyl hailed the 28-year-old as a “fantastic addition”, emphasising both his rugby intelligence and his proven pedigree in South Africa’s top-flight competitions.
