It’s Illegal: Barbarians players six words message to Springboks after defeat

After the victory over the Barbarians, Springboks head coach Rassie Erasmus was anxious to keep his players focused and believes that more difficult matches are ahead.

Against Robbie Deans’ team at DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, South Africa easily defeated the invitational team with eight tries.

In a strong performance, Malcolm Marx, Lood de Jager, Vincent Tshituka (2), Jan Hendrik Wessels, Cheslin Kolbe, and Damian de Allende all scored tries.

Not getting carried away

Nevertheless, head coach Erasmus controlled their celebrations following the victory, even though a number of rookie internationals took full use of their opportunity.

“We will not overdo this performance,” he said.

We’ll layer them in, but some of the younger men definitely proved to us that they can perform at this level.

“We are aware of who will play in Italy 1 and 2, and by the time the arduous Georgia match is over, we will have a group of 45 to 50 players who have had some playing time.”

The Springboks scored more than 50 points, which thrilled stand-in skipper Jesse Kriel, despite the fact that the conditions might have easily affected the game’s quality.

He gave special recognition to Aphelele Fassi, Kolbe, and Arendse since the home team’s deadly players continued to perform well despite the rainy Cape Town evening.

He said, “I thought we looked dangerous on turnover ball, and we came in here to be bold and positive and not let the conditions affect us and keep the ball in hand.”

“When we got the ball into the hands of players like Aphelele Fassi, Kurt-Lee Arendse, and Cheslin Kolbe, I felt like we looked dangerous.” We witnessed today that they are exceptional rugby players who can create something out of nothing.

Next stop in Pretoria: Italy

In their first Test match against Italy on Saturday, Erasmus said his team was looking forward to the drier conditions that may be anticipated at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

“If the weather had been drier, some of our line breaks and half gaps would have stuck,” the coach added.

“We are eager to hone our offense and play on a dry field.

“We want to improve, so we’ll be concentrating on ourselves for the next three games before we enter the Castle Lager Rugby Championship.”
