Danny Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday finally set to part ways, as perfect replacement found already-report

Sheffield Wednesday have known for a while now that Danny Rohl wants out, and it seems the German coach is about to finally get his wish.

The Owls were rescued by Danny Rohl in 2023/24, with the manager saving Wednesday from near-certain relegation against all the odds.

That success brought Rohl the adoration of the S6 supporters, and he followed that up with a respectable 12th-placed finish last season to show real signs of development for Sheffield Wednesday.

However, since the final days of the campaign, Rohl has openly admitted he wants to leave the club. While he has insisted he is ‘comfortable’ in England, it is thought Rohl is keen to return to Germany.

Discussions underway to end Danny Rohl’s stay at Sheffield Wednesday

Obviously, Sheffield Wednesday have been eager to keep hold of Rohl. And, while there has been interest in his services, the main thing standing in the way is a reported £5m release clause in his contract.

With Rohl not willing to walk away for nothing, and Dejphon Chansiri refusing to budge on that release clause fee, the pair have been at something of a standstill all summer.

Now, there appears to have been some progress made in ending Rohl’s tenure. In a report from The Sheffield Star, it is said discussions are taking place to bring about a compromise that will suit all parties and finally put a stop to the ongoing saga.

It is said Rohl is now unlikely to return for pre-season training with the Owls, and may well never come back to the club, as the Owls hierarchy have decided it is better to part ways than drag this on any further and cause more disruption to an already chaotic summer.

The report adds that it is not known whether the outcome will be resignation, sacking, or mutual termination of Rohl’s contract. With the finer details still to resolve, it remains to be seen whether Wednesday will retain any rights to compensation if and when Rohl takes on a new job.

What next for Sheffield Wednesday and their coaching staff?

The big problem for the Owls here is, with Rohl set to depart, the club may end up with no first-team coaching staff to actually oversee pre-season training.

Wednesday will need to find someone to replace Rohl, but first-team coach Henrik Pedersen is out of contract at the end of this month, while Chris Powell’s future is also up in the air.

The report adds that it could be down to Sheffield Wednesday academy staff to take charge of pre-season until a new manager comes in.

But, with some players still unpaid for last month and another payday on the horizon, there may not even be any players to coach unless Chansiri comes up with a solution soon.
