Overview of NHL individual award winners. As Pastrnak and Hellebuyck were Shocked.

Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck won the Hart Memorial Trophy for NHL Most Valuable Player for the first time in his career, and the Vezina Trophy for best goaltender for the third time. Czech forward David Pastrňák of the Boston Bruins, like last year, made the second All-Star team. Among right wings, only Nikita Kučerov of the Tampa Bay Lightning received more votes. The overseas league website reported this Hellebuyck, who also defended the William M. Jennings Trophy for the team’s goalie with the fewest goals allowed, helped Winnipeg triumph in the regular season. In 63 games, the 32-year-old American won 47 games and was the best in the league in both statistics, as well as in goals against average (2.00) and clean sheets (8). He finished second with a save percentage of 92.5 percent. However, the Canadian team was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.

Hellebuyck became the first goaltender to win the Hart Trophy since Montreal’s Carey Price in 2014-15. He became only the eighth goaltender to win the award since the award was first presented in 1924. Of those eight, only Dominik Hašek has won the award twice – during his time in Buffalo after the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons.

Hellebuyck has won the Vezina Trophy for the third time, following his triumphs in 2019/20 and 2023/24. The last to defend it was four-time winner Martin Brodeur of New Jersey in 2008. The record holder is Jacques Plante with seven wins (six in Montreal, once in St. Louis). According to the current criteria, which have been in effect since 1981, Hašek has won the award most often – six times.

Hellebuyck is also only the fifth goalkeeper to win both prestigious awards in the same season. Only Plante (1961/62), Hašek (1996/97 and 1997/98), Jose Theodore (2001/02) and Price (2014/15) have achieved the feat before him.

Pastrňák finished fourth in the long-term scoring phase with 106 points in 82 games for 43 goals and 63 assists. He ranked fifth among the gunners. The scorer of the winning goal in the final of last year’s home world championship and the productivity winner of this year’s championship was surpassed in the voting for the right wing position only by Kučerov, who dominated the NHL scoring with 121 points (37+84), which he collected in 78 games.
