Transfer Highjacked: Players shuts down deal and now listening to Nottingham Forest offer

Striker eyed by Nottingham Forest opens door for late move with Chelsea and Man United in the race

Nottingham Forest are going to leave no stone unturned in their quest to sign a new forward before the transfer window closes on Monday night.

Evangelos Marinakis is keen to land a new attacking player. With Forest sitting third in the Premier League, he’s desperate to ensure that the opportunity to get into Europe doesn’t pass the club by.

Matheus Cunha has been touted as the number one target. The Wolves player has stalled on a new contract and that might open the door for some teams to pounce before Monday’s deadline.

Another player liked by Forest is Yoane Wissa. However, he’s also a Premier League player and that means that a premium will have to be paid to Brentford with Jamie Redknapp valuing Wissa at £40 million.

Now, there could be further hope for a player who had previously rejected Forest. With the clock ticking towards the transfer deadline things might be starting to crank up a little bit on the transfer front.

Nottingham Forest-linked Mathys Tel makes January call

Earlier in the transfer window, Tel rejected Forest. The Bayern Munich man wanted to make a real go of things with the Bavarian giants and chose to reject the advances of the Reds.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Tel has decided to make a U-turn and leave Bayern this month on the back of a run of games where he’s now been getting into the team.

The 19-year-old has scored 16 goals and claimed seven assists from 82 appearances since swapping Rennes for Bayern back in 2022 and is largely tipped as one of Europe’s top wonderkids.

Tel has been feeding on scraps in terms of game time this season. He’s failed to bag so far during 2024/25 and he’s not made it off the bench for three consecutive games in all competitions.

Now, the player is set to move out before Monday’s deadline. It’s not clear how much he would cost any potential suitor but Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with him previously this month.

What Harry Kane said about Forest-linked Mathys Tel

Bizarrely, Tel’s desire to leave Bayern is probably down to Kane. England’s all-time leading goalscorer is in fine form for the Bundesliga outfit and that has restricted the 19-year-old’s game time.

He’s a big fan of Tel, however, with Kane explaining: “He’s started the season really well. I like the way he trains. He’s always pushing himself and is fully committed. Every time he’s come in he’s made a difference and is very confident.”

Kane and Tel have featured together in 41 matches, with Bayern winning 28 and losing eight of the matches in which both forwards have been on the pitch at the same time.

Tel has now viewed things differently as he plots his next move. The player typically operates as a striker, although he’s proven himself as a left-winger when called upon too.
