Good news: Snyman signed a year deal with the four-time champions cup winners after their arch-rivals.

Leinster keen to keep Snyman

Leinster are hopeful they will get the green light from Irish Rugby to extend Springbok lock RG Snyman’s contract.

Snyman signed a one-year deal with the four-time Champions Cup winners after their arch-rivals, Munster, were unable to retain him as they had another non-Irish qualified player – Ireland-turned-Bok lock Jean Kleyn – in the same position.

IRFU performance director David Humphreys told the The 42 website that Leinster were in “ongoing” conversations with the national body about the possibility of Snyman and France tighthead prop Rabah Slimani’s contracts being extended into the 2025-26 season.

“You’ll have seen the impact that they’ve made,” Humphreys explained at Ireland’s training camp in Portugal ahead of the Six Nations.

“You’ll have seen the fact from a development point of view, certainly with the number of players who are playing in the national squad, the number of nationally contracted players, they have not been in any way a break on player development or young player development.

“So I think they have added a huge amount to Leinster this year and those conversations with Leinster and the other provinces as to who they are recruiting are ongoing.”

Another non-Irish qualified player, All Blacks centre Jordie Barrett, joined Leinster after the November 2024 Tests but will return to New Zealand at the end of this season.
