OH NO!Striker linked with Kaizer Chiefs signs for 4th tier European side.
Kaizer Chiefs recently passed up on a striker option they held talks with at the start of the window and he has now joined a lowly team in Spain!
A striker Kaizer Chiefs was linked with has been announced by his new club after signing on a free.
Chiefs were thought to be interested in signing striker Ruben del Campo after initiating talks with the player.
New coach Nasreddine Nabi has been crying out for a need to sign a quality and experienced striker. In the previous window, he was linked to his former trusted striker Fiston Mayele. There were even unconfirmed rumours that Chiefs made a R15 million bid for the player in that window. In the end, it was acknowledged by all parties that the deal would be difficult to push through. This because Pyramid FC were not willing to let go of their top goal scorer and asset after just one season.
Chiefs had recently passed up on del Campo
There were then rumours that Chiefs would come back and test the resolve of Pyramids with a R20 million offer. Those seem to have died down with no mention of Mayele being a target for a while now. That may be due to Amakhosi finding an alternative target instead! This publication reported that they’re targeting former Switzerland youth International del Campo!
It was confirmed that Chiefs were just one of many clubs, some abroad that are in talks with Del Campo. It was then reported that Amakhosi had moved on from the player to pursue other targets. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, Universidad Católica de Murcia Club de Fútbol has announced his signing.
“Universidad Católica de Murcia Club de Fútbol has reached an agreement with Rubén del Campo Ferreiras (Fribourg, 2000) to join the university team until the summer of 2026. The forward joins the Club after his time at Atlético Ottawa, a team in the Canadian Premier League, where he has scored 14 goals in 33 games.” Wrote the publication translating the club statement.
Chiefs are on the verge of a double forward signing in Tashreeq Morris and Glody Lilepo. It is then clear that they fancied the duo more than del Campo. Amakhosi, are you happy with the club passing up on the chance to sign ex-Atletico Madrid man.
