“we can’t take this”:Crisis in the Barcelona board as key figures unhappy with Laporta’s management

The year 2024 has not been an easy one for FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta – from tackling the Negreira case, to seeing the men’s first-team finish without a trophy and sacking a club legend in Xavi Hernandez, with the handling of the situation being very disappointing.

Things looked to have taken a turn for the positive under Laporta’s newest managerial appointment – Hansi Flick.

But the sharp decline in form in recent weeks and the registration issues of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have once again turned the atmosphere somewhat gloomy.

Crisis in the boardroom

Not only that, now journalist Marsal Llorente is reporting that Laporta is facing problems inside his Barcelona boardroom, where a crisis appears to be brewing.

Rafael Yuste, the vice-president of sports at Barcelona, seen as one of Laporta’s closest aides since his return to the club in 2021, is said to be feeling ignored and overlooked by the president, who seems to be now favouring Joan Soler.

All is not well in the Barça boardroom?

Meanwhile, Juli Guiu, the marketing vice-president of Barça, is said to be unhappy and hurt by Laporta because he brought in Darren Dein to close the Nike deal when it was he who reached the agreement with the kit manufacturers.

Furthermore, the report adds that there are several other directors who criticise the improvisation and personalistic nature of Laporta’s management.

As such, some resignations from the board are not entirely ruled out, although many are expected to continue because of the privileges that come with being a Barça director.

Either way, with the presidential elections not far away, Laporta could find himself under pressure if the situation is not mitigated.

Barcelona very close to reaching a full agreement with 28-year-old priority target | Barca Universal

FC Barcelona are facing a nervy day ahead as contract registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor looms large.

The registration of these two summer signings is completely in the hands of La Liga, who are reviewing the details of the deal between Barcelona and a Saudi fund, over the sale of VIP ticketing at Spotify Camp Nou.

Barcelona, in the meantime, are working on a deal to sign Jonathan Tah, the Bayer Leverkusen defender who may join the Catalans next season.

Barcelona looking to complete Tah deal in coming days

A recent report from Matteo Moretto has indicated that Barcelona are close to reaching a full agreement with Tah.

The 28-year-old German international will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement in January, with his contract at Bayer Leverkusen expiring at the end of the season.

Barcelona are hopeful of closing the signing of Jonathan Tah

Barcelona, to that end, have emerged as a main contender to sign Tah, perhaps due to the influence of coach Hansi Flick.

Flick has worked together with Tah in the past for the German national team and is well aware of the defender’s abilities.

Barcelona, therefore, are keen on completing the capture of the Leverkusen star as soon as possible. In fact, the Catalans are hoping to finalise the deal in the coming days, with a full agreement said to be very close.

Barcelona, after all, are mindful of the fact that they are not the only suitor for the German international, who is also courted by several other top clubs across Europe.

Tah’s list of admirers include Bayern Munich, although at this point, the Bavarian giants consider the defender as good as gone, as per the report.
