Three Inter Miami stars who could thrive under Javier Mascherano in 2025

Inter Miami are about to enter a new era under new head coach Javier Mascherano.

Following in the footsteps of Tata Martino will be no easy task, but Mascherano will be confident he can build on the success of his predecessor.

Having managed mainly at youth level so far, the 147-capped Argentine will be looking to lean on the experience and knowledge of his playing days in the hope of bringing further trophies to the Chase Stadium.

Despite his lack of experience, Mascherano has a proven track record of improving players during his time within the Argentina youth setup and the 40-year-old will be hoping to do the exact same in Vice City.

With that being said, Inter Miami News has picked out three players in particular who could shine under the guidance of Mascherano in 2025…

David Ruiz

Set to turn 21 in February, the 2025 season could be a momentous one for David Ruiz.

The Honduras international made 36 appearances in 2024, a large proportion of those minutes however came off the bench, with the youngster failing to cement a place in the Inter Miami midfield.

With a former world-class midfielder now as your head coach, Ruiz will undoubtedly want to lean on the knowledge and experience of Mascherano, to improve his game moving forward.

Another midfielder who will be keen to impress Mascherano in 2025, is Benjamin Cremaschi.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakout season at the Chase Stadium in 2024, making the step up from the Inter Miami academy to make an impressive 27 first-team appearances.

With Cremaschi’s talents already familiar to Mascherano, due to their time together in the Argentina U20 setup, the youngster could become a mainstay in the Inter Miami midfield in 2025.

Tomas Aviles

Tomas Aviles enjoyed a successful first season in Vice City racking up 37 appearances at the heart of the Inter Miami defence.

The Argentine however had a tendency to let his lack of discipline get the better of him – picking up 12 yellows and two reds in 2024.

Having played at center-back at the top level himself, Mascherano will be hoping to iron out Aviles’ lapses of judgment and turn him into a more well-round defender.
