‘I don’t know what they were thinking’:Kaizer chiefs legend lashes at Kaizer chiefs for not signing Zungu
Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has expressed his disappointment after the Soweto giants failed to sign Bongani Zungu.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns winger was linked to a move to Amakhosi the minute he left Chloorkop. After six months as a free agent, ‘Ben 10’ signed with AmaZulu earlier this week.
Baloyi believes Zungu would have been a great addition to Nasreddine Nabi’s team. Kaizer Chiefs have one top midfielder injured and would have made sense to replace him with the ex-Bafana Bafana star.
Baloyi said Zungu would have been a great addition to Kaizer Chiefs
“I’ve said it in the last six months, that’s the type of player Chiefs should have signed. I don’t know what they are thinking. When you’re looking at the young players they have, you need to blend experience with youth,” Baloyi told Metro FM Sports.
“A lot of those youngsters can learn from Bongani and not only that, there’s still a lot that he can give. Look at the Bongani now, Rulani even sometimes played him in defence. It shows you he has evolved to become a better player, defensively as well. That’s the type of player you need.
“At Chiefs, you need big players, big characters, big-name players. For Chiefs to thrive, you need no less than five big-name players,” he concluded.
At the age of 31, Zungu could have brought a lot to Kaizer Chiefs given his CAF Champions League experience. Spider-man feels the midfielder’s versatility would have given Amakhosi more options in defence.

Kaizer Chiefs to sign Percy Tau for free in January window?
Kaizer Chiefs are in the need for attacking reinforcement with one of their prime targets thought to be Percy Tau, is he coming for free?
It’s no secret that Kaizer Chiefs are looking to boost their attack in the upcoming January transfer window.
Chiefs may also get the a late Christmas gift with reports that target Percy Tau could be available for free.
Chiefs targeting attacking reinforcements
In the current campaign there has been very little to suggest that will change. Currently, Chiefs are relying on Ranga Chivaviro and Ashley du Preez as their main source of goals. The duo have not been a overwhelming successes as again, like previous seasons have performed in flashes.
Chivaviro has had four goals in 10 matches in all competitions this season while du Preez has had three. They have also missed a multitude of clear cut opportunities which has seen Nabi renew his cry for a striker. One of the attackers Chiefs were linked with before the season was Bafana Bafana international Tau.
Furthermore, it was claimed that Tau, himself, was ready to reject Chiefs in hope of an overseas move. But now as those rumours dry up, there could be a pathway opened up for him to join Amakhosi. This after reports in Egypt suggest his deal at Al Ahly could be terminated in January!
Could they sign Tau for free?
“According to Egyptian website Youm7, the Red Devils are looking to terminate Tau’s contract in order to bring in another foreign player next month. The report claims that Al Ahly want to sign Moroccan midfielder Mohamed El Arouch, who is currently a free agent after leaving Brazilian outfit Botafogo . The attacking midfielder parted ways with the Brazilian outfit just five months after joining the club on a free transfer due to personal reasons after a home invasion. Tau last featured for Al Ahly as a second-half substitute in the defeat to Pachuca on penalties in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup last weekend.” Wrote KickOff.com citing those North African reports.
Chiefs have a positive history of offering top dollar lure top class free agents. From Shaun Bartlett, Tshepo Masilela, Sibonelo Gaxa, Bernard Parker , Keagan Dolly, and Khama Billiat. Could they now make Tau their latest from that list? Amakhosi fans would you like your club to bring the Bafana star home? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
