Werner’s permanent move to Tottenham is now all but confirmed
Tottenham are looking to invest further into their team in the next transfer window.
After his manager acknowledged he can’t stop him from joining Spurs, Tottenham Hotspur is anticipated to make a permanent deal in the summer to sign a striker who will cost £165,000 per week.
Tottenham set to pursue new striker this summer
Tottenham suffered a significant setback during the summer transfer window of 2023–2024 when they lost their star player, Harry Kane, to Bayern Munich for a reported fee of approximately £82 million.
Ange Postecoglou, who had a fairly successful time with Celtic, signed a four-year contract to join Daniel Levy’s squad, and they also had a change in management. Although Kane’s exit was obviously bittersweet, given that he had played 432 times and contributed to 344 goals during his boyhood club’s existence, and that he had joined to lead them towards Champions League status once more.
Postecoglou has had to rely on players like Son Heung-Min and Richarlison to create the goals they would be missing as a result of Kane’s departure in order to cover the glaring vacancy left by their talisman. Although the two have done a respectable job covering for Timo Werner and the arrival of young player Brennan Johnson, Spurs are anticipated to pursue a new striker this season.
Even though Werner didn’t score many goals during his first spell in England (only 23 in 89 games), Ange appreciated what he saw in the player, as he stated during Spurs’ 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
“I thought Timo, he missed the chance in the first half, but he was a constant threat to them and was in the right area for the goal,” he stated. “I am aware that goals boost the confidence and self-esteem of attacking players.
“I think that eases some of the burden on them, but overall, I felt like he was running extremely aggressively. He persisted in tackling the full-back, and aside from that one blown opportunity, I felt his overall play was excellent.”
Werner’s permanent move to Tottenham is now all but confirmed
Spurs have the option to make Werner’s move to England permanent because of a condition in the German’s loan agreement. Furthermore, according to a Caught Offside story, Marco Rose, the manager of RB Leipzig, has all but confirmed that the 28-year-old will join Tottenham once his loan period expires.
“We don’t communicate, but I naturally keep tabs on his progress. He begins scoring once more as a result of his comfort and well-being. He ought to carry on riding the wave. He is essentially one of our guys, but Tottenham clearly has the option to sign him in full.”
Tottenham has until the middle of June to determine “whether to exercise a purchase option” on the £165,000-per-week forward, according to a different BILD story.
However, based on Rose and Postecoglou’s communication style, it appears that the deadline is really a formality.
