In an unusually direct statement, Ange Postecoglou states that he expects the player to “never play for Tottenham again.”
Ange Postecoglou stated rather bluntly that one Tottenham player probably wouldn’t play for the team ever again.
After joining Spurs in the summer of 2022, Ivan Perisic has played in 50 games and provided 14 assists for the team under Antonio Conte.
Nevertheless, the Croatian international needed surgery after suffering a complicated anterior ligament injury in September during a non-contact exercise.
Perisic is still committed to representing his country at the Euros this summer, but it seems doubtful that he will play enough minutes at Spurs in the near future.
In turn, the 34-year-old, hoping he can prove his fitness ahead of the summer, has been linked with a move back home this January with Hajduk Split.
With Perisic’s contract expiring this summer, Postecoglou admitted he does not expect the attacker to play again for Spurs.
“No, he’s working hard to be fair to Ivan. He’s obviously got some national team commitments he wants to get back to as soon as possible,” he said.
“Again, he’s been a significant loss for us. I thought this year he was going to be a really significant contributor because of his experience and we saw that in the first few games because of the way he impacted games, but yeah, he won’t…he’s unlikely to play for us again.”
In response to the question of whether he sees himself holding trophies, Ange Postecoglou
The Australian also emphasized that, despite Spurs’ protracted trophy drought, there were several players in his side who had won silverware ahead of the team’s FA Cup match against Burnley on Friday night.
Postecoglou stated: “Cristian Romero is a World Cup champion, but it’s helpful for others to experience that. He is familiar with it. There are already people in this room who have gone through it, and it does assist. However, there is a catch to be avoided: does the fact that they have experienced something lead to complacency because you kind of flip it and decide that you need to help them climb the mountain again?
“There are always going to be hurdles there, so I believe the winning mentality is more about showing up every day and attempting to be the greatest version of yourself and to be a part of something unique. That shouldn’t ever slow down or pick up speed because there will always be obstacles to overcome, regardless of whether you succeed or fail.
“There are consistencies in winning teams in terms of having a real team-first mindset, a really strong culture, a really strong training environment, and playing styles and methodologies that you can win in many different ways, but the guys who do win things at least have an idea of what it should look like, what a dressing room should look like,”all those kind of things.
“Until you experience it, it’s hard to conceptualise it but when they’ve been part of it they know that these things are constants, and that could be this team or another team they’ve had success with.”
In response to the question of whether he could see himself lifting championships, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou gave a detached answer.
Spurs are now among the most interesting teams in the league, thanks in large part to the manager’s efforts, even though he lost star player Harry Kane in the summer.
Following 20 games, Spurs, who were leading the table early on, are now in fifth place, six points behind leaders Liverpool, despite dealing with a growing list of ailments.
