After the Harlequins’ victory over the Newcastle Falcons on Friday, director of rugby Billy Millard was unable to provide a specific timeline for Joe Marler’s comeback.

Due to an arm injury sustained during their Big Game 15 victory at Twickenham, the loosehead prop was unable to play in their match at Kingston Park.

Quins has not disclosed when Marler will be available again despite the player having been sent for a scan.

An update on Marler and Danny Care

The manager of the Londoners provided an update on a few of their injured players, including Danny Care and Marler, two England internationals.

At the beginning of the week, everyone believed that Marler’s injury was not significant and that his absence from the Falcons game was the only thing to worry about. However, with him likely to miss their clash against Cardiff at the very least, concern may grow for Red Rose boss Steve Borthwick.

Ellis Genge is in a battle against time to be fit for the start of the tournament, and he is already without Bevan Rodd for the Six Nations.

After their 24-3 victory over Newcastle, Millard stated, “I’m hoping DC can make Cardiff next week (in the Champions Cup) and Marler’s probably a little bit longer.”

“Will Porter is well, although he has a sore head. I’m not sure which he struck—the board or the pole.

The sidelines are reasonably near to the boards. Adam (Radwan) approached and expressed regret. What a refined child he is. Nothing malevolent was involved.

Positively for Borthwick, Fin Baxter, Marler’s stand-in, was excellent throughout his absence, controlling the set-piece.

“This is a huge victory for us. Even though it wasn’t flawless, Millard remarked, “that’s a big win and big points for us.”

In the first half, we had three or four opportunities to increase our lead, but we failed to take advantage of them. Our defense was excellent, and our scrum really helped us get a head start.

Because the competition is so fierce and everyone else is winning, you simply have to keep winning. For us, that was a huge point.

Newcastle without a win

Scott Baldwin, the defense coach for the Falcons, expressed frustration with his team’s wastefulness after Harlequins handed them their 11th straight Premiership.

It’s annoying, he remarked. We had so many opportunities; all we needed was the final touch. It’s probably the story of our season.

“We’re generating opportunities, but we’re not carrying them through.”

We’re not that far apart, in my opinion. Since the season’s opening half, I believe there has been progress.

However, we want to win; we don’t want to be a team of courageous losers. Like the players and crew, I was adamant that we would win the game if we showed up today. We can’t keep letting it slide like this.
