Done deal: Giants has finally secured the signatures of these key players…
Giants add James Robinson to the RB room and sign wide out Cole Beasley.
The New Giants signed running back James Robinson and veteran wide receiver Cole Beasley to their roster of talented players on Friday in an effort to bolster their offensive line, despite their ongoing dispute with star player Saquon Barkley.
Beasley is familiar with the scheme, having served as offensive coordinator for three seasons in Buffalo under Giants head coach Brian Daboll.
In his first seven seasons as a player, Beasley, who is currently in his 12th season of football, established himself as a dependable slot receiver in Dallas. After joining the Bills in 2019, he started 28 games over the course of three seasons. After signing with Tampa Bay for two games early in the previous season, Beasley took a brief hiatus from baseball. He then went back to Buffalo for the playoffs and the home stretch.
Beasley has 11 years of experience with 556 receptions for 5,744 yards and 34 touchdowns.
A fascinating addition to the Giants receiving group, the 34-year-old is one of many players available to line up in the slot. Beasley joins a wideout group that also includes undrafted free agent Bryce Ford-Wheaton, Jeff Smith, Collin Johnson, David Sills V, Makai Polk, Kalil Pimpleton, Jaydon Mickens, Parris Campbell, Isaiah Hodgins, Darius Slayton, Jalin Hyatt, Sterling Shepard, Wan’Dale Robinson, Jamison Crowder, and Jeff Smith. The slot position has been filled by Shepard, Robinson, Campbell, Crowder, and now Beasley.
The Robinson signing was announces shortly after the Beasley move on Friday.
The New England Patriots recently released the 24-year-old. Robinson, an undrafted free agent, made his Jacksonville debut in 2020 with a rookie running campaign that saw him gain 1,070-yards and score ten or more touchdowns. However, since he tore his Achilles in late December 2021, he hasn’t been the same.
Robinson played in seven games for Jacksonville before being traded to the New York Jets in the middle of the 2022 season.
After signing a lucrative contract, Robinson was cut by the Patriots, so the Giants are taking a chance with him returning to the backfield. The running back looked lethargic during offseason training.
Robinson adds another veteran to the team, with Barkley probably missing at least some of camp due to the inability of the parties to reach an agreement on a long-term contract prior to the franchise-tag deadline.
